CURRENT GROUP CLASSES - SEPTEMBER 2018

​​Movement Fascination & Alignment Bliss Blitz Series:  One hour & 15 minute movement classes, September 7 through September 24 at the south Berkeley 94702 location (near Sacramento and Alcatraz, address available on registration, contact me here).   $20 per class - See Special Offer Below!*   
  • Very limited class size (under 10) and very personal instruction.
  • No need to attend all of them, but pre-approval required.​​

CONDITIONS: 
  • My approval (contact me) is required at least one day before first attendance. All fitness levels are welcome, but some familiarity with this work is needed and a few health conditions may not be appropriate for the group setting.
  • After we've spoken, just come to whichever class you want.
  • FIRST-TIME students need to arrive 5-10 minutes early to fill out a bit of paperwork.

The schedule: 
3 Fridays (Sept. 7, 14, & 21)  7:45 - 9:00 AM
2 Wednesdays (Sept. 12 & 19)  10:00 - 11:15 AM 

3 Mondays (Sept 10, 17, & 24)  5:30 - 6:45 PM. 
Working with Katy Bowman's Restorative Exercises and Whole Body Alignment paradigm, you'll learn and practice how to check your alignment during exercises and other movements and positions (AND WHY), plus how to introduce more movement into your life. You'll also learn (and do!) self-massage techniques to release tension and increase blood flow into "stuck spots." All levels of fitness are welcome, since we use lots of awareness and props to find ways to work into the movements. MORE ABOUT GROUP CLASSES 

​We'll practice the unusually precise and revealing stretches and exercises of Katy Bowman's Restorative Exercise method, designed to help discover and release habitual muscle tension patterns that inhibit the true strength and health of our entire neuromuscular system. More importantly, we will cover WHY we do these particular exercises and what the goals are. 

You will learn how to check and adjust your own skeletal alignment by seeing how certain visible bony markers line up.  You'll be surprised how just by lining yourself up in small ways you may never have heard of before, issues of discomfort or pain that have been a mystery up to now can be comprehended. Once you gain an understanding of how your alignment is causing trouble (or leading to trouble) you can begin to make changes in your everyday life that will gradually unwind the habitual muscle tensions you've acquired.
We'll also talk about questions like: 
  • How did we acquire these habitual muscle tension patterns?
  • What's a posterior-driven gait and why is it the best way for humans to propel ourselves forward?
  • Why is the position of the ribcage in relation to the pelvis so important?
  • What's the difference between posture and alignment?

The exercises are appropriate and beneficial for every level of fitness, easily modified for most health issues, and they feel great!

​ ALIGNMENT AND MOBILITY: In this class you’ll learn simple ways to improve your balance and the alignment of your body, helping release tension and pain in your feet, spine, hands, and all the joints in between! We’ll do gentle stretches and exercises, while learning and practicing how to sit, stand and move in the most beneficial ways for your whole body.
